Hi everyone. I am working on Beauty and the Beast Jr. I am thinking about trying something different and modernizing the costumes for both the villagers and servants to give the play a different look to surprise the audience. Has anyone tried this? Any thoughts or ideas would be great.
Many thanks

Sounds like a fresh idea if you know your audience and community. Changing the time period of costumes for artistic reasons makes sense if you are clear about the setting, style and tone of your production. It also communicates the time period and the status of the characters. In Annie, the audience should be aware of the economic disparity between Daddy Warbucks and Pepper the orphan simply through the clothes the characters are wearing. Remember color, shape and composition as your major design tools. Have fun!
