Getting Advice from Prominent Actors

Is it appropriate to contact the Broadway actor (via Facebook or their website) that played a part you are preparing for? I want to ask them if they have/got any great advice or know any common traps--based on the research I've already done. Of course I would professionally introduce myself, praise their work, and offer them to decline.Appropriate or not? :)

I agree, sites like this (facebook and myspace included) are truly ment to be "social networking" sites, not "self-promotion" sites. I truly feel that the intent of the founders was to have people interacting, not just promoting themselves.

There are a fair number of Broadway actors who definitely check their Facebook profiles themselves, so that'd be a good way to contact someone directly. I think Facebook for them isn't as much about promotion, except for fan pages. Websites, though, are much more likely to be run by somebody else.

That is somewhat dissapointing that they aren't using the websites to make themselves available to their fans, but just for self-promotion. I think it would be really cool if you could actually contact them for advice.

It can't hurt, however most prominent actors on facebook or who have webpages rarely even look at them. That is all about promotion and advertising and is maintained by their publicity agents or some/such person or gorup. Some do however read them, so it can't hurt to try! :)

I think it never hurts to ask...if you don't ask, you don't get. I think the way you said you would go about it, "Of course I would professionally introduce myself, praise their work, and offer them to decline" is perfect. Good luck!
