What does "bv" mean in the Mama Mia score

Throughout the score and libretto there is a lot of vocal harmony listed with the indication of "bv"

What does that mean?  An off stage chorus?  Back-up vocals?

I've never known "bv" to mean anything else but "backing vocals". Sometimes used as shorthand to indicate what parts are harmony as opposed to which lines are the melody. Hope this helps.
