Working on WORKING: Updating a Classic with Stephen Schwartz
Working on WORKING: Updating a Classic with Stephen Schwartz
By Marcus Woollen on March 18, 2009
Stephen Schwartz has been working lately ... on Working. Our team caught up with the composer and director Gordon Greenberg in San Diego. The entire show has been reworked for a cast of 6, orchestrations updated, new roles (health care workers, telephone support) created, two new songs by Tony Award winner Lin-Manuel Miranda (In The Heights and the new West Side Story) and more to create an incredibly vibrant and relevant new version of this classic musical - that still stays true to Schwartz' original vision and Studs Terkel's amazing book.
We're no great cinematographers here at MTI, but we did manage to get Stephen and Gordon to stay put for 5 minutes to talk about their new production, and it's well worth a watch:
