After an exciting season on Broadway that produced incredible new works and stunning revivals of stage classics, the nominations for the prestigious Tony Awards were announced the morning of Tuesday, May 3, 2016. Many congratulations to all the nominees.
Earning nominations in this year’s ceremony are celebrated revivals by MTI Authors for She Loves Me, Fiddler on the Roof, and Spring Awakening.

One of musical theatre's most revered writing teams, the legendary Sheldon Harnick and Jerry Bock saw not one, but two of their celebrated musicals light up Broadway once again. The 1964 golden era classic, Fiddler on the Roof, opened at The Broadway Theatre on December 20, 2015 and earned a Tony Nomination for Best Revival of a Musical. This fifth Broadway Revival also garnered a Tony Nomination for Danny Burstein as Best Lead Actor in a Musical for his portrayal of the conflicted patriarch, Tevye, as well as a Tony Nomination for Hofesh Schecter for his thrilling choreography.
Sheldon and Bock's 1963 romantic musical She Loves Me earned 8 Tony nominations, including Best Revival of a Musical. Additionally, the musical based on the Hungarian play Parfumerie, earned nominations for Best Performance by a Leading Actor, Actress, and Featured Actress in a Musical, Best Scenic Design of a Musical, Best Costume Design of a Musical, Best Direction of a Musical and Best Orchestrations.
Sheldon Harnick is sure to leave the ceremony with a Tony Award in hand as the recipient of the Special Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre.

Earning a nomination for Best Revival of a Musical is the rock musical Spring Awakening by the Tony and Grammy winning team of Duncan Sheik and Steven Sater. Arriving on Broadway less than 10 years after the Original Tony Award Winning Production premiered, this inventive and inclusive revival transferred directly from the acclaimed Deaf West Theatre production. Starring deaf and hearing actors, this stunning revival incorporated American Sign Language as an integral part of the storytelling and choreography, unifying deaf and hearing audience members together in singly transcendent experience. In addition to the Tony Nomination for Best Revival of Musical, Spring Awakening earned Tony Nominations for Best Direction of a Musical (Michael Arden), and Best Lighting Design of a Musical (Ben Stanton).
Lin-Manuel Miranda
MTI Author Lin-Manuel Miranda (Bring it On, Working 2012), broke Tony Award records this year with an unprecedented 16 nominations for his smash hit Hamilton. The contemporary musical tells the story of our founding fathers, specifically our nation's first Secretary of Treasury, Alexander Hamilton, and has taken Broadway and the world by storm. Earning Tony Nominations for Best Musical, Book, Original Score, multiple acting nominations, and many more, Hamilton broke the record for most Tony Award Nominations previously held by The Producers and Billy Elliott which each earned 15.
The 70th Annual Antoinette Perry Awards will be broadcast Sunday, June 12 at 8:00 EST.
