A History-Making Week for Musical Theatre: First Female Writing Team Wins TONY for Best Score

The 69th annual TONY Awards was a star-studded affair, which as usual featured first-rate performances from some of the finest actors in the business.  But what made this year's award show different was the shattering of the glass ceiling by two outstanding female artists - Jeanine Tesori and Lisa Kron.  The duo made history by becoming the first female writing team (Tesori wrote the music and Kron wrote the book and lyrics) to win a Best Score TONY for their musical based on the Alison Bechdel graphic novel, "Fun Home".

MTI would like to take this moment to congratulate our friend and beloved MTI author, Jeanine Tesori and Lisa Kron on this milestone achievement.  You are both an inspiration to the thousands of future writers, composers and creative artists that will someday join our industry.  Unfortunately, most of the world did not get to see their acceptance speech since many of the awards going to authors and creators were presented off-camera.  Here's Jeanine's and Lisa's acceptance speech in its entirety:
