I am looking for creative ideas for costuming the caterpillar and the cheshire cat. I went with multiple actors (5 for the caterpillar...one main and 4 for the body) and need ideas for costumes that keep them looking like one being but allow movement and dancing. As for the cats, I don't want a typical furry cat costume with a big head. I would like something cute and colorful (my actors are all middle school girls). Any ideas, patterns, suggestions would be helpful!

HI!!!!! srry "Sealed" new member... I loved doing Alice in Wonderland over the summer and my favorite part was all of the awsome costumes. Paige already told u guys about how we did our costumes. Seriously, CHECK OUT THE VIDS!!! our director really impressed everyone. (I was medium alice but don't take what u see in that show as all i can do cuz tht wasn't my best performance... if u kno what i mean "Embarassed")
If you are looking for colorful leggings, gloves, leotards, really anything in bright neon colors try www.welovecolor.com. The colors are all beautiful!
another idea, that we did at my school, use black light, put all the girls in black, except for the head, put her in a white turtleneck with splatter paint on it. The rest of the body, put white tube tops over the black long sleve shirts. then to top it all off, give them all white long sleve gloves.

How vigorous of dancing are you talking? If it were me, I would dress all of the girls totally in a solid color (blue or green)(I would say blue sweatpants, tights, or stretch pants, long sleeve tops with hoods, either t-shirt or stretch, blue Keds, and blue or white gloves) paint the faces of body section people the same color, and make the costume of the head girl a little more flashy--no solid color face makeup, a big hairdo, etc. I would then have them stand in formation: side-by-side (-by-side :D) and in conga lines, etc. The body section girls would obviously move in unison. That already puts them in some possible dance formations and gives them a sense of moving together, but they can also break and move separately. If you can have then a little more stuck together, you could have their shirts sewn together with stitching running up the side from the bottom of the shirt to a little below the armpit.
Hope this helps. I pulled my ideas from looking at the old Disney blue caterpillar.
