When Guiteau is hung, how can the actor transition to a dummy without the audience noticing?

You could also go to blackout with trap door (opening) & swinging sound effects. Why does his actual fall or hanging need to be seen? :)

When I saw this play, the actor hanging him pulled the rope just as the lights went out.
