Broadway Junior Project

Music Theatre International’s Broadway Junior® Project provides schools that lack arts programming with the FREE training and materials necessary to present a Broadway Junior® musical production in their school.  The goals of the Project are to:

  • Assist schools that currently have no full time arts specialist to create an infusion of the arts and an arts culture within the school
  • Build a strong community through the arts that includes the school, parents and members of the community at large
  • Engage as many students as possible in all aspects and areas of the arts
  • Encourage the connection of arts programming to curriculum including assessment

Schools interested in being part of Music Theatre International’s Broadway Junior Project must fill out an application to be one of three winning schools selected for 2016/2017.

The three winning schools will receive:

  • A license to perform a Broadway Junior musical of their choice
  • A ShowKit® of materials that supplies teachers with all the resources they will need to direct, choreograph and teach music like a true professional
  • Professional development workshops for the schools’ teachers

These workshops will provide training in all areas of musical theatre production as well as curriculum connections and community involvement. Throughout the entire process of rehearsal and performance a local professional Production Advisor selected by MTI will offer guidance in these same areas while continuing to empower the teaching teams to run the program by themselves.

Who is in which scene?
Hi, I am preparing to direct Dr.Dolittle Jr. and I am just curious if anyone has insight to if it is intended that some of the core animals (Polynesia, Jip, Chee Chee) are in the circus & court room scenes? Also curious if the Circus Folk are in Court Room or not, Mr. Blossom is referred to but it could also be just written in the note that Bellows reads. Thanks for any guidance.

Mary Poppins- Backing Tracks
Hi all!I'm hoping to put on Mary Poppins next spring at our high school. We don't have a strong orchestra so we depend on recorded music. I'm currently trying to secure a company to create the back tracking for the entire show (so far I have only found a handful of titles). It's relatively expensive. Is anyone thinking about doing the show and want to go in on it with us? Currently I've received quotes anywhere from $2000-$3000. This way we could help purchase the creation of the tracks AND the purchase the use of the tracks for each theatre group...thought I would throw it out there! Thanks!Becca

Rehearse Score+ vs. Performance Accompaniment Rec.
Does anyone know the difference between the two options? I've used Rehearse Score+ before but I've never used Performance Accompaniment Rec that is available. The latter is more expensive, so I assume the quality of sound is better. Is it an option for perfomances where you may be traveling and may not have the luxury of a full orchestra? Thanks.

Looking for unique set ideas for a community theatre production of LEGALLY BLONDE THE MUSICAL
As the title states I'm looking for unique set ideas. I will be directing this production in the fall but unfortunately set design isn't my most well known talent in the theatre world. I'm very familiar with the broadway production and based on searches online many other productions seemed to use the same design for set and scenery. Basically, I'm looking for insight on how to spearhead a set design that is fresh and unique.

Dear Edwina (not the junior version)
We are wanting to do the full version of Dear Edwina next year and are researching the production. In the past, we have used themtpit for approved backing for shows like Legally Blonde and Into the Woods, but Dear Edwina isn't availble through them.MTI doesn't have a performance cd for the full version either. We are preparing for live music, but wanting to see if there are any approved recordings to use as backing. The average age of our cast is 13 and we find it easier for them to rehearse and perform with pre-recorded music over live.

Hello - are there ideas out there about how to make water. We have considered using pieces of fabric, but were wondering if there were other ways that are creative and feasible for our middle school budget. Thanks!
