The "Write" tool for your production

If the director can be considered the general of the entire production army, then the stage manager would be his, or her, loyal captain. And as captain, the stage manager does not want for responsibilities: upholding the artistic integrity of the director’s vision during performances; managing the run crew and performers; and maximizing precious rehearsal time and keeping the production on schedule. The responsibilities are virtually endless from the earliest stages of pre-production all the way through performances, strike…and beyond!

Since a stage manager’s job is arguably one of the most stressful and time consuming (and possibly one of the most personally rewarding) in the realm of theatre, MTI has developed a way to support the captains of production armies everywhere! MTI’s new resource: the Stage Manager’s Script.

Gone are the days of not being able to highlight the lighting and set change cues in the script! Forget writing, blocking and prop placement notes in the tiny margins of a normal libretto/vocal book! Though still a rental item, you can write notes, blocking and cues in pen, ink or highlighters and NOT have to worry about erasing the books before returning them to MTI! Just think: an authorized, legal production-friendly copy of the libretto that you can personalize for your production.

MTI's Stage Manager’s Scripts are printed single sided on standard 8.5” by 11” sheets of paper, formatted exactly the same as our normal libretto/vocal books (7.5” by 10” sized paper), and enlarged to fit the page making the entire script easier-to-read in dimly lit areas such as lighting and stage manager’s booths. The margins are spacious with enough space found in the margins, and on the back of the previous page, for even the most detail-minded stage manager! The format of the pages allows for over triple the amount of space for writing cues, blocking notes, and complicated choreographic dance steps.

Unlike the binding of a normal libretto/vocal book, the pages of MTI's Stage Mangers Script are three-hole punched and lie open flat, facilitating easy page flipping, hands-free cueing and blocking. Each script is bound in a standard black binder, which can sit unobtrusively backstage, or in the wings.

With the addition of tabbed divider sheets, the binder can easily becomes the production’s “promptbook.” The binder facilitates keeping all paperwork together in one spot as apposed to storing the script, various set and lighting plots, rehearsal reports, and prop lists in different places.
